5 Ways We Use ChatGPT As a Digital Marketing Agency

*Note: This post was not written with AI and you’ll see why.

We’ve never shied away from discussing openly with our clients that we utilise ChatGPT in our agency. We’re very positive about the use of AI in many forms and see ChatGPT as a tool in our arsenal of software that we can use to benefit our agency and our clients.

We have written a blog post about how AI can benefit B2B businesses and how our agency used ChatGPT & its content-writing functionality (back in 2023). But, it’s 2024, and things have moved at a rapid pace. As of writing this post, we’re on ChatGPT4, but the tech is evolving “insanely fast” (according to Axios), and the way we use it evolves, adapts and develops as the functionality broadens and we experiment.

So, we wanted to highlight some incredible ways we use it for our digital marketing agency and our clients– in the name of transparency but also because it’s so damn interesting.

Let’s dive in…. Here’s our list of the top 5 ways we use ChatGPT as a digital marketing agency.

1. Reducing Administration With ChatGPT

Admin is a pain– it’s time-consuming, often manual, and necessary. With ChatGPT’s advancement, we have begun implementing it into our administration tasks to increase speed, efficiency and utilise our resources on more significant tasks.

Whilst we already had a well-documented onboarding process, AI has allowed us to develop customised onboarding processes according to the industry and our previous experience with digital marketing. This has meant the team (and the client) have a fully tailored process developed without the need to “modify” on the go, which often lead to slight delays.


2. Using ChatGPT for Reports

By uploading analytics and reporting data, ChatGPT can provide analysis and summaries, enabling our account managers to allocate more time to their clients and less time on reporting administration.

3. Using ChatGPT for Insight Development

Incorporating ChatGPT into our insight development process has significantly elevated the depth and breadth of our reports.

This innovative approach provides our Digital Strategists with a rich foundation of insights, allowing them to dedicate more time to refining and enhancing the value of these insights.

Consequently, our clients now receive reports that are not only more comprehensive but also tailored with precision, thanks to the strategic integration of ChatGPT in our workflow.

4. Meeting Transcription & Action Item Development

The integration of AI into our process for transcribing meeting minutes and developing action items has revolutionised our efficiency, slashing the time required by a staggering 80%.

This significant reduction frees our account managers to concentrate on executing the action items rather than being bogged down by their creation.

This strategic move streamlines our operations and enhances the overall effectiveness of our team, allowing us to deliver superior results with greater focus and precision.

5. Web Development with ChatGPT

Another thing ChatGPT is great at is WordPress shortcodes. Our agency provides ChatGPT with instructions on functionality and asks it to create that functionality as a WordPress shortcode. We can then insert the shortcode into the website’s code and use it on the front end to bring that code to life on the website.

We estimate it’s reduced our development time by 30-40%. In tasks where we would have registered the work with Developers, received the work, gone through testing, reported bugs, and had them fixed, we can now whizz through the process.

This means that we can build websites faster, more efficiently, and with less development time– all of these benefits are then passed to the client.

Here’s how we don’t use ChatGPT

With software like ChatGPT, there are almost infinite ways we could use it, but we wanted to highlight some red flags that we absolutely do not use it for.

Writing our content

ChatGPT can be a really helpful part of the content-writing process. It can offer suggestions, get a copywriter started on a project, and check for significant errors in existing content. But we would never ask ChatGPT to structure, write, and edit content for us. The reasons are as follows:

  1. Our clients pay us for our skills and experience. They can use ChatGPT independently, but our services are superior to ChatGPT’s.
  2. It’s not always correct. We have an example here of when we asked ChatGPT a question, and it was incorrect. When writing about details and specifics, the tool relies on content that already exists, so if you’re writing helpful content that hasn’t been covered, there won’t be suitable content for it to copy from. And you’re relying on an unreliable source for your information. They even include a disclaimer in their chat box reminding you of their potential inaccuracy (see screenshot below).
  3. Grammar, errors, tone, can be ‘off’ – you know what we mean
  4. But the most important reason is that there are indications that Google doesn’t like AI content. In its core algorithm update in early 2024, Google confirmed it devalues content that isn’t ‘helpful’ or ‘non original’. It’s seen by many as an effort to reduce AI-heavy content churned out by software like ChatGPT. As mentioned, ChatGPT’s content is supplied based on information it has gathered online– that content already exists. The content it churns out for you has already been written and supplied online and, by Google’s own definitions, is not ‘unique’. A big no-no.

We strongly advise against asking ChatGPT to write your blog posts, and site– and app– content. It’s not worth it and could affect your rankings and brand value.

Ad Copy

We feel strongly about Ad copy being written by a human for a human. Yes, ChatGPT can be useful for generating ideas, etc. However, the end copy needs to be carefully developed by a content and advertising strategist who understands your target market.

Conversion Rate Optimisation

We have attempted to utilise ChatGPT to cross-analyse and provide insight utilising the following data points:

  • visitor tracking
  • clients’ commentary and desired direction/goals
  • analytics data
  • heuristic knowledge
  • market forces

For now, we find the process takes longer and isn’t as insightful as an experienced member of our digital marketing team.

So far, we have found that by the time we collate all the data for format the analysis into a clear and useable result, we could do a better job ourselves.
